Privacy Policy

RailSeatmap is designed so that we never need your personal data. This page explains exactly what is stored, what is not, and what happens when you use our tools.

Last updated: 3 November 2026

The short version

We do not run accounts, do not collect your name, email, phone number or payment details, and do not sell data to anyone. Your seat numbers and fares are calculated in your browser and are never sent to our servers. The only thing we store on your device is your light/dark theme preference.

Information we collect

Information you provide

RailSeatmap has no forms that transmit data to us, no newsletter signup and no account registration. Any detail you type into the seat finder or refund calculator stays on your device.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard technical log data when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, referring page and the time of the request. We use this only in aggregate to keep the site secure, fix errors and understand which pages are useful. We do not use it to identify you.

Local storage and cookies

We use your browser's local storage for one purpose only: remembering whether you chose the light or dark theme. It is stored under the keyrailseatmap-theme on your own device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

We do not set advertising cookies, do not run retargeting pixels and do not use cross-site tracking of any kind.

How we use information

  • To serve pages quickly and keep the website available and secure.
  • To diagnose errors and improve seat maps and refund calculations.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which coach layouts and refund pages are used most.
  • To comply with legal obligations if we are ever required to.

We never use your information to build a profile, send marketing or sell data to third parties.

Third-party services

Google Fonts

Our typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, Google receives your IP address and standard request information underGoogle's privacy policy.

Hosting & CDN

Pages are served by our web hosting and CDN provider, which processes request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) to deliver and protect the site.

External links

Links to IRCTC, Indian Railways and other official sites take you away from RailSeatmap. Their privacy policies apply once you leave, and we do not control them.

Analytics

We rely on privacy-light, aggregate usage counts rather than individual profiling. If we ever add a new analytics provider, we will update this page before it goes live.

Data retention

Server logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operation, typically a few weeks, after which they are deleted or aggregated. We do not keep copies of anything you type into our tools, because it never reaches us in the first place.

Children's privacy

RailSeatmap is a general-audience information tool. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect data from children either. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us through any channel, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the GDPR or the CCPA — you may have the right to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

Since we hold almost nothing, the quickest way to exercise any right is to clear local storage and site data for railseatmap.com in your browser. For anything else, write to us and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our tooling or legal obligations change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the latest revision, and material changes will be highlighted on this page.
