About RailSeatmap
RailSeatmap is an independent, free passenger utility that answers two questions Indian Railways travellers ask every day: where exactly is my seat, and how much refund will I get if I cancel?
Who we are
RailSeatmap is built by a small team of rail enthusiasts and software developers for one audience: passengers of Indian Railways. We are not a ticketing company, a travel agency or a booking platform. We build read-only reference tools that sit alongside the official IRCTC experience and help you understand it better.
Everything on this website is free to use. There is no account, no login, no subscription and no payment — now or in the future.
What we offer
Coach & Seat Finder
Enter your coach class and seat number to see the exact berth or chair position — lower, middle or upper berth, side berth, window side, and whether you sit near the door or in the middle of the coach. Covers SL, 3A, 3E, 2A, 1A, VB-CC, EC, CC, 2S and GR-3A.
IRCTC Refund Calculator
Enter your fare, ticket status and time before departure to estimate the cancellation deduction — clerkage, 25% and 50% windows, Tatkal rules and 5% AC GST — and the net amount you can expect back.
Coach layout guides
Dedicated pages for every popular coach with LHB vs ICF capacity tables, bay and row diagrams, door-end units and a tap-through seat index for every seat number.
Cancellation rules, explained
The IRCTC cancellation windows summarised in one plain-language table, plus FAQs on RAC, waitlisted and Tatkal refunds so you know the numbers before you cancel.
How it works
- Pick your coach class and build. Choose the class on your ticket and whether the coach is LHB (modern red) or ICF (older blue) — capacities differ between the two.
- Enter your seat or berth number. Seat numbers repeat in every coach, so confirm the coach letter printed on your ticket.
- Read the result. You get the berth type, window position, bay and door proximity — or, for a refund, the deduction slabs and the estimated amount returned.
Everything runs in your browser. There is no server-side processing of your journey details and nothing you type is sent to us.
Independent by design
RailSeatmap is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to IRCTC or Indian Railways. Seat maps are indicative layouts based on published coach configurations, and refund figures are estimates for guidance only. Always confirm the current rules on the official IRCTC website before cancelling a ticket.
We do not sell tickets, we do not process payments and we have no access to your PNR, booking or payment data. If a seat position or refund figure looks wrong, please tell us on thecontact page and we will correct it.
Our principles
- Free forever. No paywalls, no premium tier, no hidden charges on core tools.
- No sign-up. We never ask for your name, phone number or email to use the tools.
- Fast and offline-friendly. Pages are statically rendered and work on slow mobile networks.
- Source of truth first. We link back to official IRCTC guidance wherever a rule could change.
